The Windom Public Library is conveniently located on the Square in the downtown business district in the historic 1st National Banking Building. The building was built in 1911, has been home to the library since 1985. The building of Bedford stone, marble pillars and granite walls was renovated by community volunteers to as closely match as possible the original colors of the bank’s decor. A large mural on the north wall of the main room, which was painted by Roy F. Olson in the late 1940s, features an early settler plowing with his oxen is original to the building.

The library is a free, safe and friendly environment.  The Public Library offers Internet access, free Wi-Fi, audio books, hot spots, movies, magazines, books, e-books and e-audio books. Reading programs are offered to children and adults. Other services the library provides are Adult Coloring space, story times, proctoring exams, printing and scanning documents.  The library also offers events and entertainers throughout the year.

The library is a member the Plum Creek Library system. This is a nine-county cooperative which serves 26 libraries, including some school libraries. This cooperative allows access to share materials and resources offered through the member libraries. For more information visit: www.windomlibrary.org

Windom Public library offers Internet hotspots

Thanks to a grant from the MN State Library, Plum Creek Libraries have hotspots for checkout

The Windom Public Library announces a new offering, mobile Internet hotspots.  A mobile Internet hotspot uses cellular access to create a WiFi connection, allowing people to connect to the Internet where there is not typically strong, or any, WiFi access.

The Minnesota State Library, a division of the Minnesota Department of Education, created a connectivity grant for libraries across the state, dividing the money with a formula that included the number of people who currently have access, as well as the available speed of Internet connectivity in each of the state’s twelve Regional Libraries.  Plum Creek was awarded $8900, which partially used federal funding (CFDA 45.310, Library Services and Technology Act (LS-00-19-0024-19) Grants to States) for the grants.  Each Plum Creek Library has received four hotspots with connectivity paid for one year.

Hotspots can be checked out by a library card holder in good standing.  They may not be placed on hold, but are available on a first come, first serve basis.  Since they are a limited resource, they are checked out for only one week and cannot be renewed.
